At the start of the year, Mayor Jim Brainard announced that a total of $914,500 will be awarded to 21 different local arts organizations this year. (A nice increase from the $886,000 given out in 2016.) Groups like the Carmel Symphony Orchestra, the Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre, and the Indiana Ballet Conservatory will continue to thrive for decades to come thanks to our community’s sincere commitment to the arts.

Monon Upgrades

The beloved Monon Greenway is scheduled to see some changes in 2017 too. Widening sections of the trail with one-way streets will help support the growing number of bicyclists and pedestrians on the paths. The Monon Trail has helped connect Carmel families to the Arts & Design District for nearly 16 years, so these updates are certainly welcome. And at $23 million, they’re sure to make a big impact.

Ice-Skating Rink

Another exciting development for Carmel was announced back in October 2016. Plans for a beautiful Carmel ice-skating rink in Center Green Plaza, right outside The Palladium, are currently in the works. Construction is expected to start this summer, and a grand opening is slated for fall of winter this same year. What’s more—the addition could help create more usable space for the future farmers-market vendors. This site is sure to be a new area favorite!
